Auto accidents: Driver flees after fatal crash into bus stop

Losing loved ones in crashes in the days leading up to Christmas makes such tragedies even more traumatic for most people. One of the auto accidents in Hawaii during this festive period claimed the life of one person and left another one severely injured. It also led to the arrest of two people.

On the Thursday before Christmas, a couple from another state was sitting at a bus stop when a car careened across the center of the road and crashed into them. A 61-year-old man died at the crash scene, and a 55-year-old woman suffered serious injuries. The driver of the car, a 36-year-old woman, allegedly fled the accident scene. A 34-year-old man who was a passenger in the vehicle remained at the scene.

Reportedly, the passenger told police that he was driving the car, but the woman reported at the police station four hours later, admitting that she was the driver. She said the passenger told her to flee. This might have been because of her record of multiple previous traffic violations and a DUI conviction in 2007. She is now free on $11,000 bail, and her passenger posted $2,000 bail on charges of hindering prosecution.

Surviving family members of deceased victims of auto accidents may be entitled to pursue financial relief through the Hawaii civil justice system. The same applies to injured victims of crashes. Wrongful death and personal injury claims may be appropriate, and an attorney who is experienced in this field of the law can provide the necessary support and guidance throughout proceedings to obtain recovery of all applicable monetary damages.
