Pedestrian accidents: Yet another fatal accident reported

For a lot of Hawaii citizens, walking is the main form of transportation. Pedestrians are literally everywhere in towns and cities across the state. As populations continue to increase, more and more pedestrians are put in harm's way as they attempt to navigate around streets bustling with traffic. In an alarming and disturbing trend, pedestrian accidents have drastically increased across Hawaii this year. Pedestrians have little to no protection, so the vast majority of these accidents end in serious injuries or death.

A woman recently lost her life in a pedestrian accident in Mililani. The accident happened just after 11 a.m. in the parking lot of a shopping center. According to reports, a man was driving up to an ATM machine and lost control of his vehicle for unknown reasons.

Reports said the driver collided with another vehicle and struck a pedestrian who was standing near the vehicle. The pedestrian suffered a head injury and was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition, authorities said. Tragically, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and died at the hospital, police said.

Despite stringent laws, the installation of more crosswalks and other safety improvements, pedestrian versus vehicle incidents are happening more frequently than ever before in Hawaii. Anytime a Hawaii resident suffers injuries or the loss of a loved one as a result of negligence in an accident, he or she has a right to pursue damages for pain and suffering and other documented financial losses. A successful lawsuit could give result in financial relief to victims and families who have suffered monetary losses as a result of this tragic experience.
