Motorcycle accidents: Woman arrested after fleeing crash scene

Motorcycles are a fun way to travel. The year-round warm temperatures in Hawaii make this a great state for motorcyclists. Unfortunately, motorcycle accidents have been increasing. These types of accidents often result in death. A woman in Kailua-Kona was recently arrested and charged in connection with a motorcycle crash that killed a man.

The crash happened on Highway 11 during the evening hours. Reportedly, the victim and his son were riding their motorcycles north to Kona after recently moving to the area. The son said that he noticed his father was no longer riding behind him, so he pulled over. He said he saw a sedan drive by that had front-end damage and was smoking.

According to reports, the son turned around and found his father dead on the side of the roadway. Police said the victim was rear-ended by the sedan and the driver fled the scene. The driver was later located and arrested by police. Authorities said the driver was charged with fleeing the scene of an accident involving death or serious injury and first-degree negligent homicide.

Motorcycles are very economical and a fun way to get around. However, those who travel by motorcycle are faced with dangers that are not present for other motorists. Police believe that this particular crash may have been caused by distracted driving. Families in Hawaii who have suffered loss due to negligence in motorcycle accidents could benefit by consulting an experienced legal representative. A lawsuit, if successful, could provide rightful compensation to help struggling families with end-of-life expenses and other documented monetary damages.
