Car accidents: Fiery Honolulu crash makes headlines

It goes without saying that roadways in Hawaii are dangerous. Motorists never know what they may encounter as they travel these days. Unfortunately, not every driver is as focused and attentive behind the wheel as they should be. Car accidents can happen for a number of reasons, but one thing is for certain, crashes are happening more frequently across the state.

A fiery crash that injured two people and left one dead in Honolulu recently made headlines. The crash happened at the intersection of Pensacola Street and South King Street. According to police reports, a sedan traveling south on Pensacola Street at a high rate of speed ran a red light and was broadsided by van headed east on South King.

Reports said the violent crash ignited a fire with flames that were said to be almost 20 feet high. A good Samaritan pulled the driver out of the burning van, who was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, authorities said. Reportedly, the driver of the sedan was killed in the crash. Police said they later located a person with burns and abrasions who they believed to be a passenger in the sedan.

This crash is an example of the dangers present on today's roadways. No person wants to be involved in an accident but, due to a number of factors, car accidents are definitely happening more often in Hawaii. Those who have suffered injuries or loss as a result of negligence in an crash may benefit from discussions with a legal representative. A successfully litigated lawsuit could result in compensation to help victims and families with medical expenses and other monetary losses.
