Pedestrian accidents: Man struck on his own property

Unfortunately, Hawaii is near the top of the list of states with the highest number of accidents involving pedestrians. Walking is the main form of transportation for many Hawaii residents, so there are literally pedestrians everywhere these days. The rise in foot traffic has coincided with a dramatic rise in vehicular traffic, and one result is more pedestrian accidents.  Recently, a 64-year-old pedestrian was severely injured when he was hit by a vehicle on his own property.

The accident happened in Hawaii Kai on Lunalilo Home Road during the evening hours. According to reports, a multipurpose vehicle driven by a 16-year-old boy was heading north and, for unknown reasons, suddenly left the roadway. Reportedly, the vehicle veered into the man's property and crashed into a rock wall.

The vehicle also struck and injured the man, reports said. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, according to authorities. EMS reported that the teenage driver was also taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

These types of accidents typically result in serious injuries or death since pedestrians are unprotected and completely exposed. The state of Hawaii has been plagued by pedestrian accidents in recent years despite safety efforts by law enforcement and state officials. Those in Hawaii who have suffered injuries or the loss of a loved one in a pedestrian accident may want to consider discussions with a legal representative. A lawsuit, if successful, could result in compensation to provide families with much-needed monetary relief to help cover medical and end-of-life expenses, among other documented damages.
