Car Accidents: Tragic Honolulu Crash the Result of Drunk Driving
Unfortunately, driving while under the influence of alcohol continues to be a big problem across the state of Hawaii. Although its widely known that drunk driving can cause deadly car accidents, drivers still choose to get behind the wheel while intoxicated, endangering themselves and all others around them. A recent horrific crash in Honolulu may have been caused by drunk driving.
The crash happened at a crowded and busy intersection during the early evening hours. Authorities say the driver of a pickup truck veered across three lanes of traffic and slammed into the intersection. According to reports, the truck went through a median and knocked over a light pole where pedestrians and a bicyclist were waiting to cross the street.
Unfortunately, the violent crash resulted in the deaths of three pedestrians and injured four others, authorities said. Reportedly, the driver of the pickup truck was critically injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Police say speed was a factor in the crash and they suspect that the pickup truck driver was under the influence of alcohol.
Police forces across the country have stepped up efforts to combat the problem of drunk driving. Despite these efforts, thousands of people are injured or killed in crashes with drunk drivers every year. Families in Hawaii who have lost loved ones due to negligence in car accidents could benefit from discussions with an experienced legal representative. A successful claim could result in a substantial monetary award to help families recoup losses and pay for end-of-life expenses.
