HONOLULU, HI - Police and emergency crews were dispatched to an accident in the Chinatown neighborhood of Honolulu on Sunday night, according to a KHON report. A vehicle crashed into a building in the area of North Hotel Street and Smith Street at about 9:45 p.m. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services treated two men in the vehicle at the scene and then took them to an area hospital. There was no immediate word on their conditions. Police said the driver was issued citations for Delinquent Vehicle Tax, No Certificate of Inspection and No Certificate of Registration in Vehicle. Hotel Street was shut down for about two hours between Smith Street and Nuuanu Avenue while the scene was being cleared and investigated. MOUNTAIN VIEW, HI - A driver was killed in a pickup truck accident in Mountain View on Friday night, Hawai‘i Island police reported. Police responded to the single-vehicle crash on North Kulani Road just south of Stainback Highway at about 10:07 p.m. Investigators determined that the driver was heading south on North Kulani Road when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to go onto the right side shoulder where it struck a tree and overturned. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, despite attempted lifesaving measures by fire and medical personnel. He was identified as 42-year-old Kainalu Rabusitz of Mountain View. At this time, police believe that speed, not wearing a seatbelt, alcohol, and/or drugs may have been contributing factors in the collision, the 26th traffic fatality on Hawai‘i Island in 2026 compared to 17 this time last year. HILO, HI - Six people were injured when a pickup truck crashed through the front of a drug store at Prince Kūhiō Plaza in Hilo last Thursday, according to Hawaiʻi Island police. South Hilo patrol officers responded to Longs Drugs at 111 E. Puainako Street at about 3:55 p.m, after a 2012 white Toyota Tacoma went through the glass storefront The vehicle hit patrons and store fixtures before coming to a stop inside the business. Six people, ranging in age from 24 to 76, sustained injuries. Four were treated at the scene by Hawaiʻi Fire Department medics and released, while two were transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center for further medical treatment and were later released in stable condition. The driver, an 86-year-old Hilo man, was evaluated by medics at the scene and was not injured. Police are conducting a second-degree negligent injury investigation into the accident.
