News: 6 injured when pickup truck crashes through front of drug store in Hilo

Vehicle crashes into store in Hilo
HILO, HI - Six people were injured when a pickup truck crashed through the front of a drug store at Prince Kūhiō Plaza in Hilo last Thursday, according to Hawaiʻi Island police.

South Hilo patrol officers responded to Longs Drugs at 111 E. Puainako Street at about 3:55 p.m, after a 2012 white Toyota Tacoma went through the glass storefront

The vehicle hit patrons and store fixtures before coming to a stop inside the business.

Six people, ranging in age from 24 to 76, sustained injuries. Four were treated at the scene by Hawaiʻi Fire Department medics and released, while two were transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center for further medical treatment and were later released in stable condition.

The driver, an 86-year-old Hilo man, was evaluated by medics at the scene and was not injured.

Police are conducting a second-degree negligent injury investigation into the accident.

HONOLULU, HI - An investigation is underway into a fatal bicycle collision that occurred Friday morning in the Kalihi area, the Honolulu Police Department reported. The accident happened at about 7:10 a.m. on Sand Island Access Road near Keehi Marine Center. It was reported to the police department's Traffic Division that a motorist was traveling eastbound when he struck an unidentified male bicyclist. The bicycle rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorist and his passenger, both 34-year-old men, were not injured. Investigators do not believe speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision, the 31st traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared to 68 at this time in 2025. News: Woman, 88, seriously injured when car overturns in Manoa

MANOA, HI - Police and emergency crews rushed to the aid of an elderly woman involved in a car wreck in Manoa last week, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. The crash happened Sept. 23 in the vicinity of Kahaloa Drive and Woodlawn Drive at about 7:30 p.m. Authorities said an 88-year-old woman was driving in the area when her car flipped over onto its roof, trapping her inside. The Honolulu police and fire departments responded to the scene and were able to extricate the woman. She was treated at the scene by Honolulu Emergency Medical Services for injuries that were not life-threatening, and was taken to an area emergency room in serious condition. Moped collision in Ewa Beach

News: Moped rider dies following collision on Fort Weaver Road in Ewa Beach

EWA BEACH, HI - A man has died from injuries suffered in a moped collision earlier this month in the Ewa Beach area, according to a release from the Honolulu Police Department. The incident took place Sept. 1 in the area of Fort Weaver Road and Renton Road at about 1 a.m. It was reported to the police department's Traffic Division that a 57-year-old man was riding a moped westbound on Renton Road when he disregarded the red traffic signal while turning left at the intersection of Fort Weaver Road. The moped was struck by a 29-year-old male motorist traveling southbound on Fort Weaver Road. The moped operator, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the roadway and taken to an area hospital in critical condition. On Sept. 28, the Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office notified police that the man had been pronounced dead. The 29-year-old driver involved was not injured and remained at the scene. An initial investigation did not determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
