News: Driver dies after car falls from Downtown Honolulu parking garage onto sidewalk

Accident in Honolulu
HONOLULU, HI -A driver was killed in an accident at the private parking lot of a Honolulu condominium complex, the Honolulu Police Department said.

The incident occurred Friday afternoon shortly before 2:30 p.m. at the parking garage at 1088 Bishop Street. The police department's traffic division learned that a driver was traveling northbound on the fifth floor of the structure when her vehicle struck and breached a retaining wall. That caused the vehicle to fall about five stories before landing on its roof on the sidewalk along South Hotel Street.

The driver, an 84-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, which did not involve any other vehicles.

Investigators have yet to determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
