News: Driver dies after crashing into tree in Mountain View

Accident in Mountain View
MOUNTAIN VIEW, HI - A driver was killed in a pickup truck accident in Mountain View on Friday night, Hawai‘i Island police reported.

Police responded to the single-vehicle crash on North Kulani Road just south of Stainback Highway at about 10:07 p.m.

Investigators determined that the driver was heading south on North Kulani Road when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to go onto the right side shoulder where it struck a tree and overturned.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, despite attempted lifesaving measures by fire and medical personnel. He was identified as 42-year-old Kainalu Rabusitz of Mountain View.

At this time, police believe that speed, not wearing a seatbelt, alcohol, and/or drugs may have been contributing factors in the collision, the 26th traffic fatality on Hawai‘i Island in 2026 compared to 17 this time last year.
