News: Hit-and-run driver strikes pedestrian on Farrington Highway

HONOLULU, HI - Police said a woman has died of injuries suffered in a hit-and-run crash in the Waipahu area last month. In a news release, the Honolulu Police Department said the victim was a 54-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Aug. 30 wreck.  The department was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office Sept. 8 that the woman had passed away. The collision occurred about 1 a.m. on the H-1 Freeway.  An initial investigation found that an unidentified motorist was heading eastbound when the vehicle traveled into the right shoulder and rear-ended a vehicle which was parked there. After the crash, the unidentified motorist kept going east on the freeway and onto the Pearl City off-ramp without stopping to help or provide information. The 54-year-old woman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was a rear passenger in the vehicle that was struck.  She was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. Anyone with further information regarding the incident was asked to contact the Honolulu Police Department. HONOLULU, HI - A motorcycle and a vehicle were involved in a fatal collision in Honolulu early Tuesday morning, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported. Police and emergency crews responded to the wreck in the westbound lanes of the H-1 Freeway near the Honolulu airport at about 12:10 a.m. According to police, a motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the bike near Ohohia Street and the airport off-ramp at Exit 16A.  The motorcycle crashed into the back of a vehicle and the rider was ejected onto the roadway. The motorcyclist, a 23-year-old man, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.  He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The driver of the vehicle, a 47-year-old man, was hospitalized in serious condition. Investigators said speed was a contributing factor in the wreck. HONOLULU, HI - Two vehicles collided in a private driveway in Pearl City, leaving one of the drivers critically injured. According to the Honolulu Police Department, the accident took place Sept. 4 at about 1:40 p.m. on Waimano Home Road. A preliminary investigation determined that a 45-year-old woman was driving north on the roadway when she made a left turn into a driveway and collied with another vehicle attempting to exit the driveway. Paramedics rushed the 45-year-old to an area hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. The other driver, a 30-year-old woman, was not injured and stayed at the scene. Investigators do not believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash, but it was not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
