News: Moped rider critically injured in collision in Ewa Beach

PEARL CITY, HI - Two vehicles collided in a private driveway in Pearl City, leaving one of the drivers critically injured. According to the Honolulu Police Department, the collision happened Sept. 4 at about 1:40 p.m. on Waimano Home Road. A preliminary investigation determined that a 45-year-old woman was driving north on the road when she made a left turn into a driveway and collided with another vehicle attempting to exit the driveway. Paramedics rushed the 45-year-old to an area hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.  The other driver, a 30-year-old woman, was not injured and stayed at the scene. Speed does not appear to have been a factor in the collision, investigators said, but it was not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were involved. HONOLULU, HI - A driver was killed and a passenger injured in a recent car wreck in the McCully area of Honolulu, Hawaii News Now reports. Police said the driver was heading eastbound on Bingham Street Sept. 1 at about 11:50 p.m. when the vehicle sideswiped a parked, unoccupied vehicle.  The impact caused the first parked vehicle to crash into a second parked and unoccupied vehicle and a fire hydrant, while causing the driver's vehicle to overturn. The driver, a 26-year-old woman, was transported by EMS to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. A 25-year-old female passenger was taken to the hospital and was listed in critical condition. Two other passengers, a 25-year-old woman and a juvenile girl, were not injured. The driver and the girl were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, while the two 25-year-olds were not. There was no immediate word on whether speed, drugs or alcohol contributed to the fatal crash. KALAELOA, HI - A woman was killed early yesterday morning when her vehicle collided with a tree near the Kalaeloa Airport. Hawaii News Now reports that the accident happened on Coral Sea Road at about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 13. Authorities say that that a 48-year-old woman lost control of her vehicle in a curve in the roadway. The car ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree. Emergency responders rushed the woman to a nearby hospital, where she died a short time later. She was Oahu's 28th traffic fatality of the year. Investigations are ongoing, but police believe that the woman may have been intoxicated at the time and was likely driving too fast for conditions. We will provide updates if they become available.
