News: Moped rider dies following collision on Fort Weaver Road in Ewa Beach
The incident took place Sept. 1 in the area of Fort Weaver Road and Renton Road at about 1 a.m.
It was reported to the police department's Traffic Division that a 57-year-old man was riding a moped westbound on Renton Road when he disregarded the red traffic signal while turning left at the intersection of Fort Weaver Road. The moped was struck by a 29-year-old male motorist traveling southbound on Fort Weaver Road.
The moped operator, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the roadway and taken to an area hospital in critical condition. On Sept. 28, the Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office notified police that the man had been pronounced dead.
The 29-year-old driver involved was not injured and remained at the scene. An initial investigation did not determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
