News: Woman, 88, seriously injured when car overturns in Manoa

MANOA, HI - Police and emergency crews rushed to the aid of an elderly woman involved in a car wreck in Manoa last week, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

The crash happened Sept. 23 in the vicinity of Kahaloa Drive and Woodlawn Drive at about 7:30 p.m.

Authorities said an 88-year-old woman was driving in the area when her car flipped over onto its roof, trapping her inside. The Honolulu police and fire departments responded to the scene and were able to extricate the woman.

She was treated at the scene by Honolulu Emergency Medical Services for injuries that were not life-threatening, and was taken to an area emergency room in serious condition.

No further details were released on what led to the accident.

News: Moped rider dies following collision on Fort Weaver Road in Ewa Beach

EWA BEACH, HI - A man has died from injuries suffered in a moped collision earlier this month in the Ewa Beach area, according to a release from the Honolulu Police Department. The incident took place Sept. 1 in the area of Fort Weaver Road and Renton Road at about 1 a.m. It was reported to the police department's Traffic Division that a 57-year-old man was riding a moped westbound on Renton Road when he disregarded the red traffic signal while turning left at the intersection of Fort Weaver Road. The moped was struck by a 29-year-old male motorist traveling southbound on Fort Weaver Road. The moped operator, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the roadway and taken to an area hospital in critical condition. On Sept. 28, the Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office notified police that the man had been pronounced dead. The 29-year-old driver involved was not injured and remained at the scene. An initial investigation did not determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. Fatal accident in Lahaina

News: Lahaina man dead after crashing into tree off on Honoapiilani Highway

LAHAINA, HI - A man was killed in a single-vehicle collision in Lahaina last week, the Maui Police Department reported. The fatal wreck occurred Sept. 23 on Honoapiilani Highway near the intersection with Kaanapali Parkway shortly after 1:30 a.m. A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling southbound on Honoapiilani Highway in the inner lane at high speed when the driver lost control. The Silverado then went off the roadway, down an embankment, and crashed into a tree on the driver side of the vehicle. The driver, identified as 18-year-old Manuel Olivas of Lahaina, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time. Investigators believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash. It has not yet been determined whether drugs or alcohol were involved. Motorcycle accident in Pahoa

News: Pahoa man dies after motorcycle accident on Highway 137

PAHOA, HI - A man has died of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident in Pahoa earlier this month, Hawai‘i Island police report. The victim of the Sept. 5 crash was identified as 53-year-old Joe McDonald of Pahoa. Police determined that McDonald was operating a 2004 Honda Shadow motorcycle traveling south on Highway 137 at about 1:48 p.m. when he lost control and veered off the roadway at around the 14-mile marker. McDonald, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle and was critically injured. He was transported to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center before being medevacked to Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu, where he was pronounced dead Sept. 26. At this time, police believe that speed, alcohol, and/or drugs were contributing factors in the incident.   The East Hawaii Traffic Enforcement Unit is continuing the investigation.
