News: Woman arrested in Kekaha crash that killed 91-year-old bicyclist

KAHULUI, HI - A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle in Kahului, the Maui Police Department reported. The fatal collision occurred Sept. 9 at about 9:43 p.m. on Kaahumanu Avenue, east of South Papa Avenue. A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling eastbound within the inner eastbound lane on Kaahumanu Avenue, approaching the intersection of South Wakea Avenue, when the vehicle struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian was walking northbound across Kaahumanu Avenue at the time, out of a marked crosswalk. She was pronounced dead at the scene and was later identified as 61-year-old Lynette Kealoha of Wailuku. The driver of the Equinox, a 70-year-old Wailuku man, was not injured. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Investigators have yet to determine whether speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors. HONOLULU, HI - Paramedics were dispatched to an accident that injured a moped rider in Honolulu, KITV reported. The crash took place Wednesday night at the off-ramp from Kamehameha Highway to Nimitz Highway at about 11:43 p.m. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said a man was riding a moped in that area when he was struck by a vehicle.  The moped rider, believed to be in his 20s, suffered several injuries.  He was rushed to an emergency room, where he was listed in serious condition. The moped rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. PEARL CITY, HI - A pedestrian accident in the Pearl City Peninsula on Wednesday night left three people injured, Hawaii News Now reports.. The incident took place at about 7 p.m. in the vicinity of Lehua Avenue and Ashley Avenue. Three pedestrians were struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in the area, a 30-year-old man, a 29-year-old woman, and a 3-year-old boy. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services was dispatched to the scene and transported the three to an area hospital with multiple injuries.  They were all listed in serious condition.
