News: Multi-vehicle accident on H1 Freeway leaves 2 drivers critically injured
The crash happened Sunday night on the westbound H-1 Freeway near the airport off-ramp at about 6:25 p.m.
A preliminary investigation by Honolulu police found that a driver was headed west on the freeway past the off-ramp at an apparent high rate of speed when she lost control of her vehicle.
The driver, a 32-year-old woman, then sideswiped a vehicle driven by a 48-year-old man, which overturned and slid into the center concrete median. The woman's vehicle ended up in lane No. 1 and was struck by a westbound vehicle driven by a 48-year-old woman.
The 32-year-old woman and the man were transported to an area hospital and were listed in critical condition. The driver of the third vehicle was not hurt, stayed at the scene and declined to be transported.
Investigators believe speed was a contributing factor in the wreck but had yet to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
