WAIANAE, HI - A pedestrian was critically injured after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in the Waianae area, the Honolulu Police Department said. Police and paramedics responded to the collision shortly after 10 p.m. October 10 on westbound Farrington Highway. Investigators learned that a 27-year-old woman was walking along the edge of the roadway, not in a marked crosswalk, when she was struck by a unidentified motorist who drove into the right shoulder. The motorist then fled westbound on Farrington Highway without stopping to render aid or provide information. The pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition. Police do not believe speed was a contributing factor in the incident, but had yet to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
